Saint George Krioneritis Church
Saint George Krioneritis is one of the old Byzantine temples in Serres built at the end of the 13th century. One could say it is a martyr’s temple since about 270 years after its construction it was destroyed by Ottomans. The construction took place from 1862 to 1871.
Saints Theodoroi Church (Saints Theodore Tyro and Theodore Stratelates Church)
The Saints Theodoroi Church is the most significant Byzantine structure of Serres. An ancient church whose construction dates between the 5th and the 6th century AD. During Byzantine years Saints Theodoroi Church was a Metropolitan Church. Unfortunately, it has suffered major disasters in its recent history after being set on fire by the Bulgarians once in 1849 and later in 1913.
Church of Saint Nicholas
Another noteworthy historical Byzantine temple is the church of Saint Nicholas located in the Acropolis of Serres. Built in the 12th century, this church was destroyed in the 17th century and reconstructed in the mid-20th century.
